2005 Marin County Pinot Noir
This vintage features the vineyard's characteristic array of brown spices--at various times nutmeg, mace, allspice, cardamom and clove plus tobacco and some sandalwood aromas. Primary fruits again play a secondary role with this wine, but they are a little more lush than in the previous vintage. That doesn't mean that they are easy to pin down--it seems like boysenberry on the nose and to have at once a little warmer plum character and a little cooler blueberry aspect on the palate. This is not a "big" wine, but the mouthfeel is a bit more opulent than the '04, and the finish is a nice smooth glide into a lingering custard note.
